XATP, Spherity, Trust.med, and Legisym Announce Interoperable Effort to Secure DSCSA Verification, Tracing, and Recalls

WASHINGTON, DC — October 11, 2022 — XATP, Spherity, Trust.med, and Legisym today announced interoperability between their digital wallet, credentialing, and routing services in support of secured enhanced verification and tracing activities required by the U.S. Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA).

By November 27, 2023, Authorized Trading Partners (ATPs) in the U.S. pharmaceutical supply chain will be required to exchange product compliance information, including drug verification and tracing data. As members of the Open Credentialing Initiative (OCI) and the Partnership for DSCSA Governance (PDG), XATP, Spherity, Trust.med, and Legisym support the use of W3C-specified Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs) and Verifiable Credentials (VCs), GS1 messaging standards and data attributes, and open standards to achieve safe and secure credentialing and information exchange between ATPs for verification, tracing, and recalls.

“With the DSCSA mandating electronic interoperability across the entire U.S. pharmaceutical supply chain, ATPs with a few hundred trading partners will need to field verification and tracing requests from thousands of new entities. We’re thrilled to be working with Legisym, Trust.med, and Spherity to provide ATPs with passports to a more secure supply chain.”

– XATP president Ben Taylor

Earlier this year, XATP and Spherity announced interoperability between their digital wallet solutions to enable trading partners using either platform to securely exchange and verify each other’s credentials as ATPs. With today’s announcement, XATP, Spherity, Trust.med, and Legisym set the course for interoperable credentials contributing to enhanced supply chain security, including integrations with Verification Router Service (VRS) solution providers and emerging solutions addressing the need for tracing and recalls.

“Under the OCI banner, we have delivered the world’s first truly interoperable exchange between credentialing platforms for DSCSA compliance. As credential-backed verification activity continues to accelerate, we’re on hand to support trading partners in leveraging their ATP credentials to drive expanded use cases.”

– Georg Jürgens, Manager Industry Solutions at Spherity

“Due diligence and cryptographic assurance are at the heart of the DSCSA credentials, and what makes them uniquely suited to enhancing supply chain security. Trading partners nationwide can rely on our root of trust to ‘check the box’ on their compliance activities.”

– David Kessler, President at Legisym

“By combining GS1 standards and globally adopted Internet technologies with the work of OCI, trading partners have the solutions available to achieve DSCSA interoperability. The industry must continue to work with urgency in order to comply with DSCSA requirements and make healthcare safer for everyone.”

– Thomas Cooper, CTO at Trust.med

XATP and Spherity have both launched programs for ATPs and solution providers to obtain digital wallets and test credentials for ATP authentication.
